Is it really safe to say that it’s the most wonderful time of the year? Because we think that this winter wonderland is a death sentence to good hair. You’re either battling static, brittle ends, or oily hat hair, and not one bit of it is pretty. However, you’re in luck that we’ve been gifted by the hair gods with tons of products and secrets to keep your winter hair care in optimal condition.
Static Control
The easiest way to stop staticky hair is just to shave it all off, but we realize some people aren’t into drastic measures and might want a less shocking approach. One of our favourite hair tools that is great for combatting static is a tourmaline or ionic hair dryer. These hair dryers don’t suck the moisture out of your hair like a regular dryer will, so if you’re looking for an investment that is beneficial year round, this would be it. However, a more cost effective solution would be to use hydrating shampoo and conditioner, followed by an anti-frizz cream.
Hat Hair Helpers
Say goodbye to flat, bodiless styles with these next few tips. The easiest way to avoid hat hair is by initially styling it with lots of volume. Load up on dry shampoo and massage it in thoroughly before you put on your hat. It will suck up the oils and moisture that wearing a hat often creates, leaving you with a nice voluminous mane. Although, if you need some extra insurance, try gently backcombing where your hair needs some extra lift and set it with a strong hold spray (no hat can deny it’s power).
Bonus tip: By wrapping your hair in a silk scarf before you put your hat on will save it from the damage of your hat rubbing against your hair and will help avoid static, too.
Banish Brittle Ends
Jack Frosts’ one and only mission is to add the nip in the air and suck the life out of our hair. However, don’t let him have the upper hand because you can be proactive by taking extra good care of your locks during the colder months. Avoid washing your hair every day and make it a priority to deep condition at least once a week. Regular Trims
We understand that no one who is trying to grow out their hair, or is completely satisfied with their length, is going to want to come in and get inches chopped off their ends. However, that could be your reality if you avoid regular trims in the winter! Ask your hair stylist about your current hair condition and consider their recommendations for keeping your hair in magnificent health. Sometimes a trim is all you need to keep split ends at bay, and you’ll be able to tame it during the winter months much easier.
With all this being said, the most obvious way to acquire winter proof hair is to get on Santa’s nice list and ask him for it as a Christmas gift… but that might be a bit of a stretch, even for him.
