Feature Stylist: Meet Jenna Johnson

Feature Stylist: Meet Jenna Johnson

Plan B Kelowna Barber and Stylist Jenna Johnson

Jenna Johnson is our feature stylist this month at Plan B Hair Co.! We’re a little different, and so are our stylists – each client is unique and at Plan B we like to think we kick ass at getting to know you so why not let you get to know us a little bit too? Jenna is small in stature but big on personality, here’s a brief interview we did with Jenna:

“How long have you been in the industry?”

I graduated from John Casablancas in Vancouver in 2012. Since then I’ve received additional training in Joico, Wella, and Redken colour lines. I also compete in hair design competitions and have recently submitted an entry to Canadian Hairdresser Magazine for the Mirror Awards, the category I applied for is for Newcomer of the Year. I’m pretty excited to see what the results are going to be.

“What techniques do you specialize in?”

I love doing funky colours and pastels. I particularly like using techniques like ombre balayage and colour fades. For cuts, I’m a fan of doing super short pixie styles.

“Why did you choose to become a stylist?”

I’ve never been one of those people who could work behind a desk in an office or something. I’m pretty creative, so I wanted to do something to express that creativity… create things with my hands, you know? Also I love working with people, the customer service aspect of my profession is one of my favorite parts, I love making people happy!

“Describe your personal style.”

I would say the three words that describe my style are new age, fun, and funky.

“Tell us about your worst personal haircut/hair day.”

When I was a teenager I used a box bleach to lighten my hair. My roots turned bright orange so I tried to cover it up with a brown (also from a box) and it turned a horrible, muddy green colour. Lesson learned, don’t use box dye!

“If you could be any Hollywood movie character, who would it be and why?”

I would definitely be Penny Lane from Almost Famous. Not the groupie part, but getting to travel around with a band from show to show would be amazing especially in that era. I’m a musician, I play guitar and also sing, so touring is like a dream of mine.

“If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and could only take 3 albums with you, what would they be?”

Definitely Paramore – Riot, Pvirs – White Noise, and Bring me the horizon – that’s the spirt.

“If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and could only take 3 movies with you, what would they be?”

The movies I could watch over and over are Almost Famous, 500 Days of Summer, and Factory Girl.

“What’s your most embarrassing moment?”

When I was 14 I was at a hockey arena and decided to show off for some boys by doing a back bend over this railing. When I came back up I totally smashed my face off the glass! Everyone was there and everyone saw it, it was awful!

“We’re not trying to pick you up… but what’s your astrology sign?”

*laughs* I’m a Scorpio.

“Do you have any nicknames?”

JennaBear or Ajennaline (like adrenaline).

“What’s one product you cannot live without?”

For sure EVO Day of Grace detangler, it is amazing and gets through anything!
