We love our team, and we think you’ll love them too once you get to know them! Meet Brigette Hollett, she’s got a laid back casual style but a keen eye for detail. Brig loves to customize and personalize her services for her clients, read on to learn more about our feature stylist at the moment.
“How long have you been in the industry?”
I have been doing hair for over 2 years. I went to MC College in Kelowna, where I learned a lot of different techniques. I was very clumsy in hair school, not with hair but I was always running into everyone. Like I would come around the corner and run smack into another girl! But it was a lot of fun anyway and I really enjoyed it.
“Why did you choose to become a stylist?”
I have 3 older sisters, and I was always doing their hair. Come to think of it, I was always doing everyone’s hair. Mom always called me “The Girl of a Thousand Hairstyles”. My sisters all have degrees, and I thought I should follow in their footsteps, so I enrolled in a Bachelor of Science degree program. It was never really my passion and I couldn’t seem to ever really get into the classes very much, I just thought that was the “appropriate” career path. While studying for my degree, I signed up for hair school but chickened out, I was afraid of deviating from the norm in my family. I took a year off from my degree and finally enrolled in hair school. I had to follow my heart into hair. When I told my mom she was really supportive of me and thought it made perfect sense, so my fear was really just all in my head!
“What techniques do you specialize in?”
I love doing balayage hair colour and men’s cuts! Men’s cuts are shorter and sometimes considered easier than women’s hair, but every cut is different, so I always make sure to personalize it, paying special attention to each guy’s hairline, texture, etc. I’ve always done a lot of women’s hair, so I love that I get to do more men’s hair here at Plan B. I also love dry cutting, seeing where everything sits and customizing each cut.
“Describe your personal style.”
Ummm, I don’t really have a personal style. I never really follow trends, because I never care what anyone else thinks. I do what I want. I guess if I had to pick a style I’d say I’m casual. I like to be comfy.
“Tell us about your worst personal haircut/hair day.”
My mom always cut mine and my sisters’ hair, and she was actually pretty good at it. She was never bad in the sense that she did it wrong, but I had these straight across bangs that I didn’t like. When I had to grow them out it was awkward. I had no style back then!
“If you could be any Hollywood movie character, who would it be and why?”
Wow, this is hard! I’d probably be a Disney princess, but I’m not sure which one. Probably Ariel. She’s my favorite. Disney princesses live in a fantasy world, and I’ve always wanted to remain childlike in a sense, so living in a cartoon would be in line with that mind set.
“If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and could only take 3 albums with you, what would they be?”
That is really difficult to say, because I love music but I don’t really know the names of the artists or albums. But I can sing all the words if you like! I really like Country. I’m OK with pretty much anything except for Christmas music and Screamo. When I was growing up we listened to a lot of Shania Twain, Trisha Yearwood, and Beach Boys.
“If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and could only take 3 movies with you, what would they be?”
Bridesmaids! I could watch that movie a million times! For Love of the Game has always been a favorite of mine too. And Friends. I know it’s not a movie, but I would want to take the entire series of Friends with me.
“What’s your most embarrassing moment?”
I don’t know, my memory is pretty bad for the little things. In about Grade 4 one of my friends pants-ed me in front of everyone. That’s really the only thing that comes to mind. Now I don’t get embarrassed easily, because I don’t really care what anyone thinks of me.
“We’re not trying to pick you up…but what’s your astrology sign?”
I am a Leo. I like to read about astrology because it’s entertaining. I find it interesting because a lot of the ways they describe a Leo I relate with – being a leader, feisty attitude, etc.
“Do you have any nicknames?”
My mom calls me Beej. I think she got it from the TV show 8 Simple Rules. Growing up my sisters and friends all called me Brig. Everyone thinks it’s spelled ‘bridge’, but it’s not. A lot of people call me B as well. So yeah, I guess I have a few nicknames.
“What’s one product you simply cannot live without?”
For myself, and a lot of clients too, I would say the EVO hairspray, Builder’s Paradise Working Spray and Helmut Finishing Spray. I love the helmut because of the staying power for myself and doing up-dos for my clients.
