Easy Hair Hacks for Back to School

Easy Hair Hacks for Back to School

Alas, summer is over…

If you spent the summer sleeping in and now you’re running out the door trying to make it to class on time, we’ve got you covered. It takes some time before you get back into the swing of a regular routine for fall, plus there are still a lot of reasons to stay up late even though you know you have that 8am lecture. Fear not, you don’t have to sacrifice sleep to look cute – Here are the hair hacks you need for easy back to school style.

1. Tame frizz with a toothbrush and hairspray.

Fly-aways are F&%^ing annoying, so make them go away with a little hairspray. Now we all know this can be a precarious undertaking, because too much hairspray (especially when applied while half asleep) leaves you with a crunchy mess. To avoid this, spray an old toothbrush with hairspray and run it over those pesky flyaway strands. It’ll hold your hair in place without turning it into a helmet.

2. Braid wet hair for curls in the morning.

If you have thick hair, blow drying in the morning can be a hot mess (literally). Try showering the night before and putting your wet hair in braids, not only will you save time not having to shower in the morning but you’ll have nice wavy curls that say “I woke up like this… flawless”.

3. Dry shampoo is your friend.

No time to shower? Dry shampoo. Need a little extra volume & texture? Dry shampoo. Boyfriend acting up? Dry shampoo. Ok, well maybe not so much the last one but you get what we mean. Dry shampoo is always your friend as it absorbs oil and leaves you with clean, healthy-looking hair. PRO-TIP: If you run out of dry shampoo, cornstarch can actually be used as a substitute. Just sprinkle a little on the greasy parts and brush out!

4. The old stand-by: The Messy Bun

This is hands down every girl’s go-to hairstyle on lazy days. Combine it with Hack #1 for a little polish and bam! But if you think how the messy bun turns out is just a random luck-of-the-draw you’re wrong. There’s actually several variations of the messy bun that you can play with, check out 3 messy bun styles in the tutorial below:

5. Tie it up with a Turban

This is a cute, trendy way to cover your head, and it’s a step up from throwing a hat or a tuque on. If you search “turban headband tutorial” on YouTube you’ll find about 72,600 results… Here’s one with 2 looks:

So grab a scarf and maybe try a couple until you get the knack down pat.

Guys, we haven’t forgotten about you…

We have to confess, this has been a very female focused article and we realize guys might need a little help in this department as well. If you have a short haircut you can probably just throw some styling product in and get on with your day, but if you’re working with a medium length coif what can you do? Check out these pro tips from EVO stylists:

  • Use a paste or soft clay styling product, anything harder can rip your hair out, and always apply it through from the roots to the ends so it doesn’t end up floppy. Brush it back, part & go.
  • For the slicked back look, always go with a gel
  • If you want messy bed head texture, use a salt spray and tousle dry with a towel.

There you go! Now you can be on time and look good. You’re welcome.
